Library Instruction Preparation

Hello!

Before we meet your Writing 101 class in person, we’d like to introduce ourselves. We are Amy & Kim, your friendly Instruction Librarians. You will see us from time to time in your classes, but let’s start with why you will be seeing us next week.

Amy will meet with you in the library –in our small reference room.

We want you to get the most out of the session, so we’ll be doing some hands-on activities and searching during class.  However, we need you to do a little homework before your session so that we can dive right in.

So, here’s what we’d like you to do before class:

  1. Bookmark the WRIT 101 Research Guide on your laptop. You will be using this guide throughout the semester.
  2. Complete & submit the assignment linked here before your scheduled instruction session: https://hbl-gcc.libwizard.com/f/WRIT101-pt1
  3.
    1. All of the instructions and materials are provided in the link above, but there are a few steps, so plan for this assignment to take 20-30 minutes.
    2. Parts of the assignment:
      1. View these videos:
        1. Picking your Topic IS Research
        2. One Perfect Source?
      2. Access Ebsco Discovery and search for the Internet of Things
      3. Locate the Research Starter for the Internet of Things at the top of the page.
      4. Read the first few paragraphs of the entry, looking for keywords that you could use to search for more information about this topic.
      5. Answer a few questions and submit the assignment.

NOTE: If you need to complete this assignment while you are off-campus, you must activate the Library VPN on your computer before beginning the assignment. For instructions on activating the Library VPN, click here.

One last thing, please remember to bring your laptop to class with you for the session.

Thank you all in advance for taking some time to do this homework.

We’ll see you next week!
